This Reader's Theater was designed to get kids practicing Zeno and sight words. Zeno Words are the 107 most used sight words. There are parts for 3 students. The challenge with young students and low readers is to have a script that is interesting and yet on their level. There are other words in the script but they are low words - used for 1st through 2nd grade. In the script, Barry, Jeff, and Tim are sleeping in a tent. They have had a good day but as they get ready to sleep they hear a noise. Each of them wonders what it could be. Finally they decide to open the tent to look. They see nothing. Barry goes out to see what it is and finds it is nothing scary. It is Barry’s dad snoring in the tent next to them.
There is a small writing prompt at the end of the script. *Note that on the front page I have left room for you and the students to write words that they need help with. This will give them a chance to preview those words each time before they begin the script. I use reader's theaters to encourage my students to practice fluency. It is a fun way to do something that they need. The lower a student's level, the harder it is to motivate them to practice which is why I have written these lower level scripts.
Most of my scripts are in black and white so they photo copy easily. The problem with many other reader's theaters is that students spend a lot of time waiting for their part. When you have a small group they get more practice in and less off task behaviors take place. My name is Melanie Whitesides but my store name is Wonbyone. If you would like more of these scripts please visit my store! I hope that your students enjoy this script as much as mine did. Let me know how things go!
