There is a budding artist inside every young student, and with this whimsical activity, students will practice reading skills as they draw a funny face based on the directions in the prompt. This is a great informal assessment of students' proficiency with the vocabulary of: the parts of the face, colors, numbers, and adjectives. Each student works independently, not looking at classmates’ drawings until all have completed the activity. Although each student will have the same basic components, each drawing is different from the next and the students enjoy seeing each others’ handiwork. The finished pictures make a wonderful bulletin board display and students from other classes love to see how their friends’ version of this activity turned out!
