Split the board in half. Choose a number of the animals and draw them on the left hand side. On the other side, draw the food that they eat.
Demonstrate the meaning of the word eat and have one student come to the board and draw a line connecting the animal to the food that it eats.
Below this, write the target sentence in a dotted format that a selected student can come and write over. Drill the sentences until students can freely produce them.
After this give out the worksheet and explain that, firstly, the students must connect the animal to the correct food and, secondly, trace over the sentences at the bottom and then write the sentence themselves on the lines provided, reading each sentence after they write it.
When the students have finished drill the sentences focusing on correct pronunciation.
After this, you can either allow them to colour the worksheet and go around asking them ‘what do cats eat?’ , etc. Or you can put them in teams. Draw a square for each team on the board, have a student from each team race to draw the food that the animal eats and produce the correct sentence after you
