What does it even mean? Tefillah Activity
They've said the phrase hundreds of times, but do they know what it means?
This hands-on activity will have your students learn and process its meaning in their long-term memories.
How to use this activity:
Prep: Cut and Shuffle 1 set per pair.
Write the phrase on the board. Then, ask students which words they already know.
Go over the pronunciation and *translation of the words. Afterward, place students into pairs. Then, using the Hebrew cards, ask them to reassemble the sentence.
Afterward, hand out the English cards. Ask your students to match the English translations to the Hebrew words. End the activity with a class discussion about the significance of these words and why they think most prayers begin with this phrase.
Optional Challenge: Using a timer, see how quickly they can match the Hebrew words with their English translations
*To meet the needs of all congregations, additional cards with secondary translations are included.
