Biology students often have difficulties understanding how genetic technology is applied in the real world. They have heard of genetic engineering, but have little idea of how it actually works. This project uses an engaging problem to help students understand the following:
-How scientists identify specific genes.
-How scientists isolate and remove specific genes from a strand of DNA.
-How genes from one organism are transfered to another organism.
-Ramifications of transgenic organisms
-Students will create products that demonstrate their knowledge of multiple types of genetic technology.
-Students will consider and discuss the environmental and ethical ramifications of transgenic organisms.
