I usually start my archaeology courses by examining the question ‘What is Archaeology’? Students invariably already have a fixed idea of what they are about to study. These ideas however, tend to differ from student to student. This resource helps students to come up with a working definition by combining ideas from the group.
This resource could be used with 9th – 12th Grade, Adult, Higher Education or as the question is a general one, it could be used with lower grades 5th - 8th.
It can be used:
(i) As a warm-up / bell ringer (ii) As an individual exercise (iii) As a Small Group Exercise (iv) As a note-taking tool in class (v) As homework.
NOTE: If used as an individual or small group exercise, students can feed their individual/small group ideas back into the whole group, to produce a working definition for their course.
