This PowerPoint is a great introductory lesson for students working on their fluency. The presentation explains fluency, why it is important, and how to improve it. It offers several practice techniques to help students improve their fluency. The presentation shows students how to monitor their own fluency skills and listen for good fluency when others read. Students participate in the presentation by choral reading a few lists of sight words, phrases, short sentences, and one short passage. This practice helps to give students an example of the many things they can use to practice with in order to improve their fluency. At the close of this lesson students will have an understanding of what fluency is, why it is important, and several ways to improve fluency rates. I use this presentation with my RTI students and in my differentiated small group guided reading groups.
