Pg. 3-8 High-Frequency Word practice – roll the dice to see how many times to write them, illustrate them and use them in a sentence – students can dictate if needed
Pg. 9 Roll and Write! – practice writing the capital and lowercase letter i – roll the dice to see how many times to write it on each line
Pg. 10-14 i is for iguana – make an iguana out of the lowercase “i” – copy all patterns onto appropriate colored construction paper – glue tail and legs to the bottom of the letter on the underside – glue tongue onto top of the dot on the underside – glue the letter including the dot onto a piece of construction paper – glue on scales, toes and wiggle eyes
Pg. 15-16 Glue the Ice Blocks onto the Igloo – cut out the ice blocks – glue only the blocks that have pictures that contain the /i/ sound
Pg. 17-20 My “i” Words – cut out the igloo and letter strips – cut on the dotted lines on the igloo to form openings – insert the letter strips up through the top opening and down through the bottom opening – move the strips to form new words – copy page A and B back to back to form the My “i” Words Book – record your words into the book
Pg. 21-23 Common and Proper Nouns – copy pages A and B back to back – fold on the solid line and cut on the dotted lines – lift the flaps and write a Proper Noun to go with the Common Noun
Pg. 24-28 Space Match – play concentration with your High–Frequency Words by placing them face down and taking turns turning two cards over at a time and reading them – keep your matches – whoever has the most matches at the end of the game wins – can be laminated
Pg. 29-30 Tic-Tac-Read! – play Tic-Tac-Tow with your High-Frequency Words – can be laminated
Pg. 31-38 If I Were a Scientist I Would Study … - a craft and writing activity – copy all patterns onto appropriate colored construction paper – put together as shown in the example – add writing paper to a piece of white construction paper
Pg. 39-41 My Secret Message! – It’s fun to write a message but more fun to write a secret message to someone! - form a pocket by folding the paper in half and gluing the sides only – place your message into the pocket and give it to someone – enough notes for two students on each page
