What is a Scientist?

What educators are saying
Description
*UPDATED TO INCLUDE: authors, writers, historians, mathematicians, artists & A DIGITAL OPTION!*
Every year I find that my students think that scientists are all the same! They are old guys that wear lab coats and have crazy hair. My 6th graders come to me with very little science background. I always hear, “Are we going to make potions?” They think science is like Harry Potter with wizards and potions and I can’t help but scream!! It is my job to make them realize that scientists can have many different looks and eventually make them realize that THEY are the scientists in my classroom this year.
This lesson includes an activity where the students will draw what they think a scientist looks like, and then ends with the students realizing that they are the true scientists. I have included a STEM challenge in this pack as well that is quick and gets a lot of stereotypes out and then open to talk about!
