This unit develops young students' knowledge about scientists and what they do. It encourages students to verbalize their definitions of a scientist and then describes what six types of scientists do. The six listed are taken from TEXAS RESOURCE SYSTEM's second grade YAG, but work very well for NGSS, also. Students are given a word wall, a scientist template, riddles, matching cards, and multiple choice posters. There is a teacher suggestion page for activities and an answer key. The items can be used easily in a science center, in small groups, and also as whole class instruction. Scientists listed are: botanist, zoologist, oceanographer, meteorologist, geologist, and ecologist. Use and enjoy.
