### PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Introducing variables can be really daunting! Many students feel nervous to mix letters and numbers, and often they feel frustrated before they even begin a problem. Don't let variables be scary!

These 26 cards give students a chance to really learn what a variable is before diving in and giving them a numerical value. Each card asks students to fill in the variable with a particular phrase, topic, etc. For example, for the letter B, the card states:
B is bigger than a baboon.
Students fill in what B could equal. Give your students practice "plugging in" their variable results by rewriting the statement with their "substitution." Many of the cards require students to get up and find out their classmates' interests, strengths and talents!

This is the perfect way to introduce variables in any size setting. It is great for whole class instruction, small groups, math centers, reteach groups, enrichment opportunities, RTI, resource teachers, and so much more!

I use this product to enhance CCSS 6.EE.2. It is a stress-free introduction to:

variables
substitution
checking work

COLOR AND BLACK&WHITE versions are INCLUDED in this download. Student response pages are also included.
