Many students in special education do not understand the purpose and content of an IEP. This is a mini-lesson that introduces the reasons IEP's exist, and asks students to reflect on their accommodations.
The teacher should be familiar with each student's IEP; I usually print a copy of each student's vision (including diagnosis and testing, with diagnosis highlighted), and a copy of Plep A and if warranted, Plep B.
Students watch a short video about IEP's and answer questions. They then watch Rita Pierson's Ted Talk regarding the importance of human connection in learning. Depending on the age and level of your students, this is a great conversation starter and has a "feel good" vibe as well.
Exit ticket includes reflection on their learning. All documents are editable to enable you to customize for your students.
