This is a Christmas opinion writing piece where students decided the best thing to leave out for Santa. Maybe they should leave out soup to warm him up? A carrot or apple for his reindeer? A cheeseburger because he's tired of cookies? Celery because he's a little too chubby? They'll have so many great ideas. I've even had some parents write and say their child really wanted to leave out what they wrote about in class! Children can relate to this fun assignment, and it has a cute craft to make it even more enjoyable. They can roll paper to make Santa's beard and add cotton to his hat. It would be a great project for a Christmas display, and it meets the CCSS on top of it! There are a variety of brainstorming sheets, graphic organizers, writing paper options, and picture options that help you differentiate based on your students' needs. This is a great resource for your Christmas plans.
