This could be a cross-curricular assignment that incorporates one of a student's favorite things...food! This assignment allows students to explore a favorite meal and the ingredients to make the meal. Students will explore a recipe, "shop" for the ingredients to determine the cost, create a nutrition facts label if this meal was sold in a store, and determine exercise plans to burn the calories consumed from the meal. This project has been successfully used in subjects such as Economics, Anatomy, Health, and even Math. It was created for high school students, but could be modified for middle school and elementary classrooms.
It is even possible to have students present their work prior to have a food fair after the presentations.
