This quick response sheet is a great tool to use to visually display what each of your students are reading.
The way I use this product in my classroom is by dedicating a bulletin board to Whatcha’ Reading Responses.
As soon as a student finishes their reading material, they go over to the board and fill out a response sheet. I have two envelopes stapled to the board. One holds the blank sheets and the other is for the students to place their completed response in and I will then go and add it to their first response, right over top of it.
I have my students draw a picture of their favourite scene and write a quick, snapshot summary of the book. You could also have the students recreate the front cover in the blank box and then provide a brief explanation as to why they chose to represent the cover in the way that they did.
This is a great tool to use for back to school. I leave the bulletin board up for Meet the Teacher night as this serves as a great way for parents to see how many books their child has read. Also, it provides an opportunity to display students writing and to begin conversations about their writing abilities with you.
