Use this creative coloring assessment as a supplement to the book “In My Heart: A Book of Feelings” by: By: Jo Witek and Christine Roussey.
Have students make a color key on the right side (For example: color the box yellow next to the word “Happy”). Pick a color for each feeling word.
Ask students to use their feelings/color key to color in their heart based on how they are feeling now.
This is an excellent way to asses what your student are feeling or dealing with in their everyday lives
While students are working on their hearts I walk around and ask them to tell me about their hearts. “What feeling or color do you have most in your heart?” “Why are you feeling that way?”
This is a great conversation starter or follow-up!
This could also be helpful to present to parents at conference time if you are worried about how a student is managing their feelings in the classroom.
