- "Strategy-to-Habit" cover sheet
- "WHAT'S IN YOUR TOOLBOX?" printable banner
- Multi-colored and B&W toolboxes
*** When teaching students new reading strategies it then becomes our goal to turn these “strategies” into “habits”. Therefore, help your students set goals on what they need to work on with the “Strategy to Habits” printable. (Tip: Print and paste to a folder or reading mat).
When conferring with a student, jot down a goal or strategy that he/she needs to focus on. Place the strategy post-it on the “Strategy to Habits” sheet so the student can keep track of their goals. (Tip: You can download ready made reading strategy post-its at: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Reading-Strategy-Goal-Setting-Cards-1936795)
Once you observed that the child has accomplished their goal and the reading strategy has now become a “reading habit”, then ceremoniously transfer the post-it from the sheet on to the toolbox. (Tip: laminate and display toolboxes around the room or on a bulletin board.) Watch throughout the school year as the toolboxes become filled with reading habits and your students become stronger and more confident readers! ENJOY!
