Students will love these magnet activities!
First, they get to walk around the room with a magnet and a clipboard with the recording sheet. As they find magnetic items around the room, they draw a picture of it and, if they are able to, write the name of the item under the picture.
The second activity allows for them to make predictions as to whether an item is magnetic or not. They test their hypothesis and record the outcome.
Third, students are given various magnetic and non-magnetic items and are allowed to sort them using the included labels. (Updated 12/10/14 with a second version)
Finally, the students can compare the strength of two different types of magnets by predicting how long of a paperclip chain each will hold, testing their hypothesis, and determining which magnet is stronger based on how long of a paperclip chain it can hold.
