Product Description
In this math problem-solving activity, students have graduated from high school and are ready to take on the world. They will need to find a job, a place to live, fill out a job application, plan menus, and stay on a budget. This activity is always a huge eye-opener for my fifth graders. It gets them thinking about the future and how much it really costs to live out there in the big old world. I have included some extensions at the end. One of my favorites is the job interview. One year, besides having his son interview in class, a dad took his son to work and had his boss interview the young man. Of course, he got the job. The young man came back so excited because he was hired and getting two weeks paid vacation. He told me he was going to the Caribbean and he couldn’t believe his boss was paying for it! I hated explaining what 2 weeks paid vacation really means. This activity will get your students excited and thinking—and give them practice with decimals and problem-solving.
