This is a set of 10 integrated writing and science activities.
As a teacher, I know how packed our schedules are. Yet young children are full of questions about the things around them. I try to take advantage of teachable moments whenever possible, but usually have trouble finding the time to do anything but give them short, simple answers.
As a result, I have come up with some activities that focus on things that are common to children and that can be easily integrated with science, writing, and/or reading blocks. A few can also be included in math blocks. They make great centers as well as be used for direct instruction, Use them as a focus topic, or as supplemental materials to what you are already using. Children will love the unique twist of trying to identify the close-ups before reading about them!
Each one includes:
a close-up picture of something,
a creative writing prompt,
a story planning organizer,
a lined page for writing the story,
a rubric to score the writing,
a picture identifying the something,
nonfiction information about it
In addition, the each activity includes one or more of the following:
experiment or other activity
