This engaging activity is designed to enhance a student's executive function skills and working memory. Many students struggle with planning and organization, understanding the "sweep of time" and how to initiate tasks and maintain them to completion. These skills can be taught and games are a powerful way to strengthen them.
This game of memory promotes a deeper understanding of the items that a typical student in 3rd through 5th grades may put in their backpack each day. The students develop their working memory capacity when they practice holding a visual picture in their brains as each card is turned over. The capacity to maintain attention is developed as students attempt to recall where each card is located in order to make a matching pair.
