Students learn the characteristics of living things in this lesson. First they sort pictures into living or nonliving categories, then through discussion come up with the factors that determine a living thing. Then they sift through sand to find picture cards to classify as living or nonliving and make picture graph of the results. Science Skills: observation, inferencing, drawing conclusions, classifying, and graphing.
