My students struggle with modified elimination where they must multiply one equation by a number to change coefficients in order to eliminate one of the variables. I created this project in order to have some cooperative learning opportunities in which students would compare traditional elimination with modified elimination.
There are four handouts included. I broke students into groups of 4 to complete these projects. In classes with more than 20 students I repeated one of the numbers (i.e. 2 group 3's or 1's).
One of the great things about this project is the lovely problem solving posters that result. I used these as anchor charts in my room and putting them on colorful paper made a bright display of student work.
