Lesson Objective: Students will relate individual points to equations. They will create equations to satisfy requirements. They will experiment with linear, quadratic, and absolute value equations and the related graphs.
Task: In each “mystery,” students try to guess what equation made the points on a graph. Three points will be revealed (on the powerpoint). When the first point is revealed, students create equations that could have produced that point. When the second point is revealed, students again think of any equations that will work. When the third point is revealed, students try to come up with the mystery equation. With each point, the solution possibilities will be fewer and fewer. 5 mysteries are included. Solutions are revealed after each mystery.
