Product Description
This is an 8 page packet that carefully directs students to analyze a reading by looking for the central idea. Then it guides students to write a short response about the chosen nonfiction text. This was used within a civil rights unit, but it can be used for any nonfiction reading passage. It was created to teach kids on how to write a correct short-response answer on the NY ELA Common Core tests. Rubrics are available on the EngageNY website.

This uses the TIED organizational strategy.

This can be used multiple times with different readings.
