1st, 2nd, or 3rd person? How do I know?
Recognizing author's point of view can boost reading comprehension and can establish meaning for the reader. This mini lesson explains each point of view using real-world visual aides. Each point of view is compared to a real-world, everyday object that the students can relate to.
This packet covers the following concepts:
--First Person point of view
--Second Person point of view
--Third person point of view
--Objective third person point of view
--Omniscient third person point of view
--Limited Omniscient third person point of view
The lesson plan provides the following materials:
--2 pages listing story books which can be used as examples of each point of view
--4 pages of colorful lesson project-ables with clever visual aides to enhance understanding of the concepts
--4 pages of b/w lesson handouts which correspond to the lesson pages
--5 pages of worksheets for application of concepts
--Additional point of view activities are also included
When you teach this lesson you may also want to provide the real-world objects in your classroom to give your students a more hands-on experience. This can also be taught in centers or stations using the objects. Objects include: a mirror, a camera, a magnifying glass, cotton or a small pillow.
