This is such a fun activity to help your students develop creative thinking in mathematics! It has endless possibilities and can be used with any student in any grade level for any topic.
Included in the product:
Large worksheet for creating longer word problems
Bulletin board headers (one colored and one white for printing on colored paper)
Small exit tickets for printing on sticky notes
Sticky note printing template
I like to use this product in two ways – to introduce a topic and as a quick formative assessment throughout a unit. The first time students do this activity, they are always a bit shy and hesitant, but they quickly let their creativity shine once you celebrate the differences in students answers.
Differentiate by setting parameters for students, i.e., create a 2-step word problem or use different operations in the same word problem. Push students out of their comfort zones and praise their efforts as they stretch their mathematical thinking.
Have students swap papers and solve their partner’s word problem. This allows students to check their partner’s problem to see if it matches the intended answer.
