These PowerPoints provide best practice vocabulary instruction. Show each word, then show the two sentences using the word and have students write down their prediction for what the word means. After students have made their predictions, show the true meaning of the word, then have them compare their definition to the real definition.
For “on their own work,” I usually have students then create a drawing representing the word, or if they prefer provide a synonym and antonym for each amazing word.
*Variation: you can go through and provide the words with the sentences, then have students write their own definitions for homework. The following day you can provide the real definition and have students make comparisons.
