This social scenario talks about how sometimes students get stuck and need help, reassuring them that everyone needs help, therefore it's ok to ask. It explains that it is not ok to whine, grunt, make someone guess what they need, or be nervous or embarrassed to ask for help. The story details the three steps for when students get stuck: (1) try on their own, (2) ask a friend, and (3) ask an adult for help.
The script teacher the students to raise their hand when they need help from the teacher during class time. There is also a page that mentions hand signals or other class signals (e.g. sad face/red card on student's desk). This page can be left out if you don't use these signals with your students.
The story comes with a visual reminder of these three steps, as well as the targeted phrase "Can you please help me with...?". This visual can be displayed in the room or in a student's work area.
