We all work with students who exhibit a variety of challenging behaviors in the classroom setting. When working with other students, how is it possible to take the time needed to assist the student who is easily angered? Give them a choice of how they can respond!
Here is a visual that can save you stress/anxiety and help manage anger outbursts in the classroom. After you have identified the trigger of the challenging behavior, present the student with this visual so that he/she feels empowered and is given an appropriate way to calm down. This visual specifically targets ways to calm down with popular characters including: Mario, Luigi, and Spongebob characters.
By offering choices to your student, this shows them that they have more control over their environment. Offering choices is one of the principles of the Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), which is a research-based intervention method for children who have experienced trauma.
Just print, laminate, and use expo markers to re-use this wonderful behavior page. This resource works great in social emotional rooms, special education settings, speech therapy settings, and the general education classroom as needed. Enjoy!
