This classroom activity will have your students smiling from ear to ear. They will be creating a classroom ABC book of idioms. If you have never tried to teach your students idioms, this is a fun way to get your kids to go bananas for idioms. I have included a list of books that you can incorporate into this lesson. I have always found that giving the students practice through listening to books with idioms was helpful.
There are ABC cards for each letter of the alphabet that contain several idioms for your students to choose from. In addition you will have an alphabet page for your students to publish their work on. There is also a cover for the classroom book with a place for you to add the class name. Please note that both of these are available in color as well as black and white for easy printing!
But the fun doesn't stop there, I have included an idiom viewer to help get them excited about trying to figure out the "hidden meaning" of their idiom. This little tool will get your students thinking clear as a bell!
Finally you will get 4 different teaching charts to use when you are introducing idioms to your class. Each card has pictures, the idiom saying, and a sentence to show how it is used. I am sure your students will love idioms as much as mine do!
* This unit has been updated to contain the free pages as a big thank you to all the teachers who have purchased this! I heart all of you!
