This interactive read aloud lesson is designed for children ages 3 - 8 (pre-k - 2nd) to be used in whole or small group settings. Interactive read alouds allow children the opportunity to interact with the text, answer open-questions, and make connections between their own experiences and the experiences of the characters in the story.
This lesson contains 3 read alouds of the same story, focusing first on plot, characters, and major events, then on emotions and behavior, and finally on story recall. All three lessons include pre-formatted sticky note questions, think alouds, and vocabulary reminders. Assessment templates with questions and possible student answers are located at the end of the end of the lesson.
This is a wonderful lesson for the beginning of the school year. The story doesn't take too long to ready, and the illustrations are so appealing and interesting to students. Focusing on social emotional learning early in the year sets everyone up for success.
