While some students are just fine if the teacher never calls on them for an answer, some students can't bear the though of not being called on! This social story addresses the behaviors some students display when not given a chance to answer from minor rule breaking behaviors like calling "Mee! Mee! Mee!", jumping out of seat or shaking their hand up in the air impatiently, to more troublesome behaviors like arguing with the teacher, crying, yelling and throwing fits, refusing to work any longer, etc.
Students are offered the teacher's perspective: she cannot always call on the same students because she wants to give everyone a fair chance, she wants to check for everyone's understanding, but she always sees who has their hand up and that makes her happy.
Students also learn the proper way of behaving when the teacher is asking questions: stay calm, raise hand, wait patiently to be called, always keep trying, writing the answer down for the teacher to check later.
