This resource is a great tool to have displayed in your classroom. I have this displayed in two different spots in my classroom; one in the front of my room and one in the back. This makes it easy to read no matter where a student is sitting and reminds me to ask students to assess their thinking throughout the lesson.
How I use this resource:
In my classroom I have this displayed vertically to represent how are thinking grows throughout a lesson. I introduce this ladder at the beginning of the year by explaining and giving examples the different types of thinking. We discuss how our goal at the end of the lesson should be thinking in the purple or yellow. Students know that we rarely begin a lesson thinking in these colors but we have to work up to them. I also explain that when we are thinking in the purple or yellow we are using all the colors below.
I have included a color copy of this resource and a black and white copy. If you don’t want to use color ink you can easily print this version off on color copy paper.
