This is a book I made for my kindergarten students, though I may also use it with my first grade RTI students. They all have trouble with the words "where" and "find", so I made this book to give them additional practice.
The idea is for students to read each page and sound out the (potentially) unfamiliar word at the end of each first sentence. (My kindergartners are also having trouble grasping the fact that, once you look at the sounds that each letter in a word--for example, c-a-p--those sounds don't change when you put the word together. They'll often sound out c-a-p but then turn it into "cat" when they say the word itself because "cat" is a much more familiar word.) After they've figured out what they're looking for, identifying the picture on each page is easy. I'll have them circle the correct item and then, when we've finished reading the book, they can go back and color the pictures.
