Students will listen to and read "Where I'm From" by George Ella Lyon. They will brainstorm words and phrases they can use in writing their own poems inspired by Lyon's style and format.
This mini-lesson includes three worksheets, instruction slides, and lesson plan directions. It would be a great getting-to-know-you activity for the first week of school, but it's also an easy introduction to using poets as models for writing. Minimal prep.
