During this unit, students will open up a piece of their short past by writing poems and creating timelines to show some of their favorite memories! Use the letter and resources to assist your students in developing their timeline at home. Then, in school, the students will create “Where I’m From” poems. Students brainstorm a list of ideas from their funds of knowledge and record their thoughts on their planning map. Using these ideas, students write poems to describe their past. Display on the Where I’m From Bag Craftivity and/or use for the storage of their timelines and writings! These bags also work perfectly as writing portfolios for students. This is such a great way to build classroom community and create a respect of different beliefs and backgrounds in the classroom!
