Where Is The Caterpillar? Spatial (prepositional) concepts adaptive book
This is an adaptive book that targets spatial concepts: in, out, on top, under, next to/beside, between, in front, and behind. It can also be used to target vocabulary and increasing words utterances (by using the sentence strips at the bottom of the page: “Caterpillar is in the box”). The sentence strips also have visuals on them (see images)!
*ASSEMBLY IS REQUIRED* - You will need laminate, Velcro, and whatever you will need to bind your book together.
1.One cover page
2.16 storybook pages filled with spatial concepts, sentence strips, and pictures
3.One end page
4.One page of caterpillars to be cut out and used with the story (I included 4 extra caterpillars just in case!)
1.Print out the title page, storybook pages, and end page and laminate
2.Cut out your caterpillars individually and laminate.
3.Place Velcro on the backs of each of the caterpillars and on each of the storybook pages in the places where the caterpillar is to be placed (i.e. if it says “caterpillar is in the box” put Velcro in the box). I also like to place Velcro in other places on the page rather than just the spot you want you students to put the caterpillars. This way you will know that they actually comprehend the preposition.
4.Bind book together and enjoy!
1.Either read the sentence aloud to your student(s) or have them say it.
2.Have the student(s) follow the instruction and place the caterpillar where it belongs.
4. Ask the student(s): "where did you put the caterpillar?" "in the box"
