Exercise your imagination. Learn drawing and painting techniques. Grow in your creativity, reading, drawing, and writing skills. This art lesson walks students through the wild world of Maurice Sendak's illustrations and invites students to create their own WILD THINGS!
This three week lesson was designed for use in a first grade Art Class but is adaptable for homeroom use. Materials can be easily swapped out and the lesson can be compressed or stretched as time permits.
Students will engage in an interactive reading of Sendak's "Where the Wild Things Are", view his illustrations, draw their own Wild Things and imagine where their Wild Things would live, paint their creatures and backgrounds, and write about their creations.
This lesson is great for introducing concepts, skills, and materials to young students, and the final artworks look great when hung in the hallway.
