Evolution can be a tough unit to teach on. Whether it be the teacher who has a hard time coming to grasps with the theory, or students opposed to learning about evolution, it can be difficult to approach in the classroom. BUT it is necessary (due to tests like ACT, SAT, state tests, and college courses) for students to learn about the theory of evolution.
Get students thinking for themselves! With this research assignment, you will take your students on a ride to discover their own answer to the question: "Where did we come from?", all while making sure they learn about the theory of evolution.
The assignment guides students through research of evolutionary principles as well as intelligent design, and the OPTION of researching other (religious) viewpoints.
First, students are given vocabulary words to define and guiding research questions to answer. The end product of their research will be a persuasive paper discussing their viewpoints based on the EVIDENCE they found during their research. 90 points total.
Instructions, vocabulary lists, research questions, final points breakdown, and grade sheets are included!
***A great tool for implementing scientific research, scientific writing, and using evidence to support a claim!!
Although this assignment can be done outside of class time, it may be most beneficial to allow students at least some class time to research- that way you are there if they have questions about their findings!
