Where in the Milky Way are we? Is a power point presentation that helps students understand the Earth’s location in the Milky Way galaxy.
Grade 5 NGSS covered by the presentation: 5-ESS1-1. Support an argument that differences in the apparent brightness of the sun compared to other stars is due to their relative distances from Earth.
The presentation has been designed with an emphasis on vocabulary. Many pages include fill in the blanks to help students consider possible answers and use context clues to understand and complete the text.
Vocabulary includes universe, galaxy, constellations, magnitude, and light year.
The presentation includes 12 slides filled with information and pictures explaining relationships between the universe, Milky Way galaxy, the solar system, and the earth.
The additional slides include review of vocabulary and a writing prompt as a summary activity.
The review section is available as a free worksheet in my store (Where in the Milky Way are we? Review).
