This lesson works on prepositions and past tense. It includes real picture that I took and can be made into two mini book. This is a perfect lesson for cat lovers like me, but also a great way for students to learn these concepts through real pictures.
The first mini book works on prepositions and has either one or two blanks for the missing preposition. Some of the prepositions used include:
under, next to, in, on top, before, behind, and in front of.
The second mini book works on past tense regular and irregular verbs. The sentence is written, highlighting the present tense verb and a line is provided for the child to write the correct past tense of the verb. An example is ‘the cat is laying next to the box.’ In the blank provided the child would write ‘laid.’ A list of the verbs used include:
If you are going to use both books I suggest completing the preposition book first because these prepositions are already written in the past tense book. Both books include the same pictures and sentences. The sentences just have different areas highlighted or missing.
There are also two pages included to have students work on formulating sentences as well as their writing. For the first sheet students need to write eight sentences using prepositions of where the cat is. They can make these sentences up and do not need to use ones that are in the mini book already. The second sheet is for students to describe where the cat was using the past tense.
Depending on the level of your students the preposition mini book would be more appropriate for younger students and the past tense book for older students.
