Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace Lin is a wonderful book and the students don’t want to put it down. The book has beautiful illustrations and little tales within the story that have thoughtful messages. My students often struggle with main idea, messages or themes. For this project, the students write the key details in the section at the bottom. It is also difficult for students to learn which details are the most significant in a story, so this helps students learn to choose important details. After the students write the key details, they discuss the main idea and write the main idea. Then they draw a detailed illustration of the story using text evidence to guide their illustration. Each page included is one of the tales within Minli’s story.
