Designed to be used after Chapter 10, students select one scene from chapters 1-10 to rewrite, adding themselves in as a new character. They then write three or more paragraphs, including dialogue. Creativity is encouraged, but they are instructed not to change the meaning of the story.
My class wrote themselves in as characters such as Billy's twin brother/sister, cousin, a friend, an enemy, another dog and even his guardian angel.
