This activity is a nice diversion from the read-the-rules-on-the-first-day. Students begin using science vocabulary, academic language, problem-solving, and communication skills immediately. The teacher is left with a seating chart that will need only minor adjustments for the first several days and a set of classroom cards to use later in discussions or in grouping students.
