This one page worksheet covers decomposing, or breaking apart, especially numbers five through ten. It is ideal for advanced Kindergarteners and 1st graders but they may need help with the reading and writing required. Those in 2nd or 3rd grade may be able to complete it independently.
Most students get practice with their addition and subtraction facts, but working this way is almost like working backwards or solving a number puzzle. In that sense, it may be hard for some students to come up with a list of all the different decompositions. This is one reason why I would recommend it for advanced students first. However, all students will need to have mastered decomposition, in order to use number sense strategies.
