This is a memorable activity for students to practice calculating unit price and unit rate. Students will compare the prices of similar items and predict which item is cheaper. Then the students will compute the unit price of each item to determine which item is actually cheaper.
For the second part of the activity, you will need a few more materials if you'd like. You can also fill in the table with your own numbers if you don't want students eating in class (checklist provided in instructions.) If you do decided to use the additional materials, it is cost effective because you will only need it for a few students. The zip file provides a power point presentation of the activity, a pdf presentation, and a SmartBoard presentation. (I recommend the smartboard if possible.) The worksheet and teacher instructions are also included.
