The ability to create a sensible bowing can be a real challenge for young players. Having the ability to look ahead at complete phrases to see which bow direction to begin with is a difficult skill to acquire. This packet will supplement your current books to help you teach bowings and the process string players use to determine bow direction.
These are examples and strategies I find myself always using with my orchestras and lesson groups. I have left off some counting as sometimes I like to pencil them in while I explain them in lessons. The examples also make great warmups for young ensembles and lesson groups. Add an extra challenge by having students count out loud while they play.
