My students have to take a semi-annual assessment where they have to read paragraphs and analyze the writing. I noticed that many of my students struggle with this question: Which sentence does NOT belong? Therefore, I created this PowerPoint to help teach kids how to decide which sentence is off-topic and therefore does not belong.
This PowerPoint has 10 slides. Each slide contains a paragraph and answer choices, just like they see on the test. After an additional click of the mouse, the answer flies in, along with an explanation of WHY a certain sentence does not belong in a paragraph.
This resource also includes a matching follow-up printable that can be used as an independent worksheet or an assessment!
I designed it for my classroom use so that I show 2-3 slides of the PowerPoint Monday through Thursday, and then give students the worksheet on Friday to check for understanding.
