This short social story was created for students who very often perseverate on specific topics. It teaches students that they can whisper their thoughts to the Whispering Ear, rather than talking about it to teachers, parents, or peers over and over again. The idea is that once a student talks about something, one time is OK. If they continue to perseverate on the topic, they will be re-directed to tell the Whispering Ear. Once it is told to the Whispering Ear, the topic is ALL DONE. The goal is for students to 1. tell the Whispering Ear, 2. whisper to the Ear, 3. walk over to the Ear and think about the topic, but not say it, and 4. eventually just think about it without the ear.
